Thanks for making this service possible and helping Queenslanders in need

The Queensland Police Service is responsible for maintaining the security and safety of all members of our community through the prevention and detection of crime and putting offenders before the courts. This is a responsibility that we are not able to achieve on our own. It is a responsibility that can only be achieved through working collaboratively with our community members and key Government and Non-Government Organisations.

Whilst the largest proportion of referrals are made through the Domestic and Family Violence referral categories, it is very important to note that these are not the only areas that Police are connecting vulnerable people to service providers. These are only 2 of the 23 categories of referral issues that Queensland Police Officers are able to support people with a referral to a support service. Whilst the numbers of referrals to each of these categories varies considerably, every referral is as important as the next.

By working closely with local service providers that are truly immersed in their communities, the Queensland Police Service is able to play a major role in helping people to access local support services that enable a level of connection to facilitate change. This investment provides long-term benefits for everybody involved. From the victims of crime, the people just looking for guidance on where to turn, their family, friends and carers, the broader community and the Queensland Police Service, all benefit from the work of our supporting agencies. It is this commitment to serve that sees the Police Referral service having the positive impact on so many lives.

On behalf of the Police Referral Service, I thank all of the people involved in the 450 service providers who help make this program work, who help people find the light in their darkest hours and who truly are building safer, caring and connected communities.
