Meet our Team
A network of 17 District Police Referral Coordinators assist with coordinating the Police Referrals at district levels throughout Queensland, performing the role along with their other duties.
They are supported by the Police Referral Services Unit based in Brisbane.
Together they seek to:
Champion cultural change borne by the referral service to District personnel, through presentations to / meetings with police managers, training and other effective communication strategies.
Ensure District QPS members:
- Are encouraged to make genuine referrals and understand the referral process;
- Are advised of, and are assisted to address issues regarding police service delivery; and
- Have a local contact point to resolve local (police referral) service delivery issues or concerns.
Work with local service providers to:
- Ensure appropriate services are receiving police referrals;
- Assist with resolving issues regarding local service provisions; and
- Provide a local QPS contact point to discuss local issues.
Assist local police managers to realise the potential benefits of referrals, including reducing recidivism, re-victimisation and repeat calls for service by:
- Providing information and advice as necessary utilising comprehensive reporting tools; and
- Working closely with other District QPS sections responsible for community-based initiatives and supporting vulnerable persons, such as District Crime Prevention Coordinators, Domestic and Family Violence Coordinators, Mental Health Coordinators and Child Protection and Investigation Unit officers.
